1. Space-age manicures
Crackle nail polishes were all the rage at shows on the runway, but our take is a little different. We think that magnetic nail polish is going to be the one to look out for. These polishes have traces of iron powders in them. Once you paint y our nails and pass a magnet over the wet polish, it ‘pushes’ the powders creating different effects on each nail. Super chic. Super fun!
2. BB creams
The name has been around for the most part of this year, but does everyone really know what a BB cream is? We’re here to help! Referred to as Blemish Balms or Beauty Balms, the work of a BB cream is three-fold. First, they need to moisturise your skin. They usually have an SPF built in and act as a tinted moisturiser, so you don’t need a host of different products. If we were to stretch them one step further, we could even talk about their anti-oxidant properties that help to regenerate skin. BB creams can be used as a primer for heavy coverage (layered over with your regular foundation), or as a foundation for light coverage.
3. Orange
We would have said ‘bright lips’ and we wouldn’t be wrong, but the colour orange has been so prominent year-round that it deserves a post for itself! Bright orange, ranging from cheery and tangerine to full on neon and creamsicle shades have dominated not only the runway but street-wear as well. On the catwalks, models for Anna Sui, Nicole Miller and Jeremy Laing were seen donning this dominant shade!
4. Braids
Ah, braids! Who would have thought that the simple plait that used to finish your school-girl look would end up being such a huge fashion statement years down the line. The basic plaits, the herringbone, french braids and more have been seen all over the place, on the catwalks and off!
5. Metallic eyes
Who doesn’t like a little bling? Especially on your peepers so you can bat your eyelids and enchant everyone who crosses your path! At Fendi, a step further was taken in the metallic eyes trend when gold and silver leaf was carefully applied to the entire top lid of the eye from lashes to eyebrow. Very chic! We have a simple way of getting similar treatment: with a high pigment metallic eye shadow (in a colour of your choice) swept across your upper lid. Try it on!
